How to Make This Design into a Pin
1. Hoop
2 layers of "rinse-away" stabilizer.
2. Using a LIGHT spray of embroidery adhesive, adhere a piece
of white twill, or other suitable fabric to the top, and float
a piece of heavy "cut-away" stabilizer loose under
the hoop.
3. Embroider the design---stopping before the running stitch
outline (color is undefined). Lay another piece of the white
fabric under the hoop.
4. Sew the outer running stitch outline "undefined
color". (I usually match the final satin stitch color for
this thread.)
5. Take the hoop off of the machine, (DO NOT UNHOOP THE
RINSE-AWAY STABILIZER!) and cut away the top fabric and the
under fabric, and also the cut-away stabilizer from around the
outer ring of the running stitch outline as close to it as you
can, so that the final satin stitch can totally seal over the
edges. You would be cutting above AND below the layer of
"rinse-away" stabilizer - cut the top and then the
underside. (The "rinse-away" stabilizer is all that
is holding your embroidered pin in place for the final satin
stitch outline.
6. Sew the satin stitch around the edge of the design, then
take it out of the hoop. Gently tear away the
"rinse-away" stabilizer---wetting the edges of the
sewn out item should remove any stabilizer that is left.
7. Secure a pin back to the back piece of fabric, near the top
of the embroidered pin (5/8" from the top).
--- I used a brass 1½" safety pin. I just used white
thread and needle to tack the upper side of the pin to the
fabric.
